As I finangle and fuss about with my cellular device, I am reminded that today was that day in history when the first telephone conversation was conducted by the inventor of one of the most beloved & hated devices of modern times ever devised.

The inventor’s name was Alexander Graham Bell and for as long as we had phones with a thingey that went ‘ding a ling’ when someone was trying to get hold of you, his name lived on attached to his invention in this somewhat minor way for over 120 years.

Sadly with the arrival of digital smart phones that now go ‘ping’ Bell’s name has been gradually lost to the younger generations coming along, who think that phones were invented by an apple.
